Working under the direction of the Urea & Shipping Superintendent, the Urea Shift Supervisor directs and controls the activities of a crew, consisting of both Urea process and Shipping area operators, to ensure that this group acts in unison to gain the maximum benefit for the complex.
What you’ll do:
- Demonstrate leadership and contribute positively to the facility safety culture through active, positive participation in EHS safety programs and initiatives.
- Ensure awareness of and compliance with facility EHS policies and safety standards throughout the team. Ensure timely compliance with Corporate EHS findings.
- Anticipate the needs of the process and personnel supervised and make provision for them thereby maximizing productivity and efficiency of the plant and the shift organization.

- Identifies process problems and maintenance needs.
- Participate in maintaining effective and on-going training and development programs for Operators to achieve the competence level required to meet present and future needs.
- Assist in hiring, discipline, and recruitment opportunities.
- Provides communication link between Superintendents and Operators.
- Provides written and verbal exchange of information as required for maintenance of organization records and provide input to those people on whom that information will have an impact.
- Maintains comprehensive log of shift data.
- Liaise with other personnel or departments in an atmosphere of co-operation and appreciation for individual as well as mutual objectives.
- Troubleshoot routine and time critical process and mechanical problems.
- Lead crew to make correct decision-making during plant upsets.
- Understands and complies with established departmental processes and procedures designed to support internal controls efforts. Identifies and brings to the attention of department management internal controls deficiencies.
- Support the initiatives of Continuous Improvement through teamwork, and the application of Quality Planning and Improvement Principles to the routine performance of duties.
- Active member of the ER team in the capacity of Incident Commander.
Day Relief Rotation
Periodically, a Urea supervisor can be rotated to day shift. During that rotation, there may be no direct shift responsibilities and additional responsibilities are considered. Below are some examples.
- Provide backup coverage for plant Chief Power Engineer and Area Superintendent as needed.
- Provide additional support to the shipping area and crew members.
- Serve as production resource for project initiatives.
- Support EHS including EHS reviews, Pre-Start-Up Safety Reviews (PSSR)
- Support and work with process engineering for engineering work requests and management of changes.
- Provide supplemental operator development and training as needed.

Required Skills
- Post-Secondary Education in accredited Power Engineering Program. A 2nd Class Power Engineering Certificate is a minimum requirement.
- Relevant experience is an Ammonia or Urea manufacturing sector is an asset.
- Valid Driver's License.
- This is a supervisory position and experience in mentoring and performance management is an asset.
- Leadership: Demonstrated knowledge, skills, abilities, and attributes to perform successfully in the key areas of People Leadership, Results Leadership, Thought Leadership & Self Leadership.
- Time Management: Identifies, establishes priorities, and executes tasks to consistently deliver results within required timelines.

- Judgment and decision-making: An understanding of your own personal knowledge and limitations when considering long and short-term decisions and recommendations.
