Job Summary:

This Industrial Analytical Chemist role will support the EHSQ Mission by providing advanced analytical chemistry services in the Corporate Technical Service Lab.

The position will contribute to CF’s corporate culture of our “Do-It-Right” commitment to Environment, Health, Safety, Security and Quality Improvement in every task we perform. This role may interface with Manufacturing Engineers, Manufacturing Lab Supervisors, Distribution and Supply Chain team, and Sales team members.

Job Description:

KEY JOB ELEMENTS:

  • Work collaboratively with a team of chemists to provide advanced analytical chemistry support to CF’s Global Manufacturing locations.
  • Principle Operator for multiple Gas Chromatographs including a wide range of detector technologies; Mass Spec, BID, FID, TCD, SCD.
  • Principle operator for HPLC and Ion Chromatographs including routine maintenance.
  • Provide support as required in operation and routine maintenance of multiple UV-VIS and Infrared Spectrophotometers.
  • Provide support as required in operation and routine maintenance of ICP-OES Spectrometer.
  • Wet Chemistry methods, including gravimetric, titration, separation, distillation, precipitation, colorimetric, and other methods.
  • Preparing summary reports of analyses.

SUCCESSFUL INCUMBENTS WILL HAVE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an applicable Physical Science field, but a degree in Analytical Chemistry is highly preferred. Other degree backgrounds with applicable demonstrated experience will be considered.
  • Preferred 5 years’ experience in an Industrial or Contract Analytical Chemistry Laboratory. An advanced degree in Analytical Chemistry with 1-3 years of relevant experience will be considered.
  • Demonstrated advanced analytical chemistry and instrumental chemistry skills required, especially with regards to Gas Chromatography, Ion Chromatography, and Liquid Chromatography, including sample preparation, analysis, data interpretation, and instrument maintenance.
  • Experience with other instrumentation highly desired although not required, including UV-VIS, FT-IR, NIR, Fluorescence Spectroscopy, ICP-OES, CHNS Analyzers, SEM-EDX, and other advanced instrumentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required. Both formal and informal project written documentation will be required. Presentation skills sufficient to communicate thoughts succinctly to management. Routine communication with operating plant engineers and lab supervisors across the CF network of manufacturing locations.
  • Fluent with Microsoft Office tools, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of Lab Information Management Systems (LIMS), such as LabVantage, is desired.
  • Mature time management skills and being comfortable working in an environment where priorities change rapidly.
  • Some travel required in North America (approximately less than 10% annually).
