The Lab Technician is responsible for providing the Port Neal Complex with competent analytical and environmental chemistry support in a safe and cost effective manner to ensure team member safety, minimize costs, optimize production, and maintain compliance with all applicable regulations.

Job Description

Nature and Scope:

The Lab Technician provides competent and timely diagnosis, analysis, and advice on plant-wide problems by applying their expertise in chemistry, laboratory techniques, and knowledge of the plant processes and equipment.  The incumbent is responsible for ensuring all product shipments meet the appropriate specifications.  This position ensures that routine water, process and product analyses are completed, recorded, and communicated in a timely, accurate fashion and that non-routine analyses are completed with a heightened sense of urgency and accuracy, in a problem-solving mode.

These responsibilities require a good understanding of the plant processes, their interdependency, and plant priorities.

Technical competence, the ability to work in a team environment, and effectively and tactfully communicate with others are very important in this position. This position has a major impact upon plant success by controlling off-spec shipments.

Duties include:

•Provides advice when troubleshooting or problem-solving facility issues.

•Supports and encourages safe operating procedures and techniques in the laboratory. Promotes the safety program.

•Maintains effective communications and working relationships within the laboratory as well as the other departments.

•Ensures the daily sample schedule such as routine water, process, and product analyses are completed, recorded and communicated accurately.

•Ensures all product shipments meet the appropriate specifications.

•Ensures all procedures are followed consistently in compliance with CF and Government guidelines.

•Follows instructions and procedures but also acts on one's own initiative.  (motivated, self-starter?)

•Mobilizes quickly without acting impulsively, showing good judgment.

•Conducts non-routine analysis as needed to solve plant problems.

Position Requirements:

•Rotating shift and frequently requires extra hours of work to accommodate the needs of a 24-hour continuous process manufacturing plant.

•Working evenings and weekends is required as part of the rotating shift schedule.

•Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry/Science or related degree is preferred.

•Experience in a lab setting required and applicant must be able to perform chemical analyses in accordance with approved methods and professional techniques.

•Working in the plant process area is required.

What We Offer:

You’ll enjoy competitive compensation, consisting of base pay plus an incentive program available to all full-time team members, and a comprehensive benefits package including high-quality healthcare options, a well-being incentive program, 401k, life and disability insurance, generous time off (with time off to volunteer) and much more!

You will be part of a team that brings their varied experiences, wide-ranging knowledge and diverse talents together to deliver important work, and you’ll be able to pursue complex, exciting opportunities that help you continue to grow and achieve your potential in different areas.  You’ll take pride in working for a company that lives its values and gain a sense of fulfillment knowing that you’re working with purpose, to provide clean energy to feed and fuel the world sustainably.
